Horror Industry Releases

We get a boatload of news from horror filmmakers, musicians, writers, and artists each week. We unfortunately don't have the staff to get a news angle on all of them but it's still stuff we think you'd be interested in. So as a means to get you the same news they send us, we're going to use this place for their press releases.

DVD Release: Malevolence from Anchor Bay

TROY, MI – On April 19, 2005, Anchor Bay Entertainment will introduce a new classic horror film into the DVD marketplace with Malevolence. The film was originally released theatrically in August 2004 and was the company's first theatrical release. Malevolence garnered critical acclaim throughout its extended run and as a result, this 'new classic' receives the ultimate "Anchor Bay treatment." The Malevolence DVD will feature audio commentary with Writer/ Director/Producer Stevan Mena, Actor Brandon Johnson and Associate Producer Eddie Akmal, rehearsal footage, deleted scenes, original trailers as well as TV and radio spots, a still gallery and the script in DVD-ROM format. It also includes the fascinating new featurette Back To The Slaughterhouse, a behind-the-scenes look at the challenges of making an independent film. Malevolence features a high-definition Divimax transfer and 5.1 Surround Sound, all packaged in an attention-grabbing foil pack with a "blood-streak" o-card. Malevolence is a creation of Stevan Mena, who wrote, directed and produced the film. With a limited budget, Mena fashioned a sure-to-be classic that has been compared to John Carpenter's Halloween among others. Intended as the middle section of a three-part trilogy, Malevolence takes place ten years after the kidnapping of six year old Martin Bristol, who was forced to witness the unspeakable crimes of a deranged madman. For ten years, his whereabouts have remained a mystery. Now, when a bank robbery goes wrong, desperate felons Julian (Brandon Johnson), Marylin (Heather Magee) and Kurt (Richard Glover) scatter to meet up later at an abandoned house in the middle of nowhere. Grabbing hostages Samantha (Samantha Dark) and Courtney (Courtney Bertolone) along the way, the group has no idea that the house they've chosen for their seclusion is about to become a hunting ground - with them as the prey...

Malevolence was originally released under a limited run in August 2004. Due to overwhelming audience response and feedback, the company extended the theatrical campaign in October 2004. The film has played in over 40 markets throughout North America.
