What Really Scary Is Reading

The Marriage of Sticks
by Jonathan Carroll

One of the most admired American writers of the last two decades, Jonathan Carroll writes ghost fiction the way Henry James, Edith Wharton, and Shirley Jackson used to write it, deeply imbedded in the social surround, but in a slick style closer to F. Scott Fitzgerald's. You must read this amazing author, click on the book cover!.

Jenny Finn, Outstanding Horror Comic Cancelled
The Comics' Continuum reports Oni Press will not publish the last two issues of Jenny Finn, the horror comic book by Mike Mignola and Troy Nixey.

"As many may know, Jenny Finn was rife with scheduling problems and production difficulties," said Joe Nozemack, Oni publisher . "While all parties involved entered into the project with every intention of putting out the best book we could, somewhere along the way our paths diverged. When it became clear that we could no longer agree on the way things should be done and the direction the book should go on, we decided it was best if Oni release Mike and Troy from the publishing agreement so they could pursue the book in a manner that would be the most pleasing to them."

All orders for the final issues of Jenny Finn, scheduled for an October and December release, have been canceled.

Scream 3 Release Backed Up, Craven Not So Happy
Entertainment Weekly recently talked with Wes Craven regarding Miramax's announced that it will push back the release of Scream 3 from December to February 2000. He's not thrilled with the move.

"I wanted to end the 20th century with my last genre film," says Craven, who will move into the mainstream with this month's Music of the Heart, starring Meryl Streep.

Craven adds that the Scream cast and crew had met a nearly impossible schedule to get the final sequel ready for Christmas, but Dimension's sales team decided the holiday season was already too packed with competing films.

"I would prefer to have it out and done with, but they're the marketing wizards," Craven said.

And if you worry that the Scream 3 screenplay, written by 27-year-old Arlington Road scripter Ehren Kruger, may be inferior to creator Kevin Williamson's first two installments, you're not alone. Craven confesses that his creative team had a difficult task. "It was a struggle to keep the tone and the nature of Kevin's writing, but [I think] we pulled it off."

Evil Dead Headed to Playstation
Well, cut off my arm and attach a shotgun to the bleeding, horrific stump -- Evil Dead is coming to Playstation!

THQ Inc. has begun development on a new, multi-platform product series based on the cult-classic horror film Evil Dead, with Evil Dead for the PlayStation and PC slated for release in fall 2000.

``An interactive adventure based on Evil Dead is long overdue,'' said Bruce Campbell, star of the Evil Dead trilogy. ``Today's game technology will give millions of fans their first chance to experience the sometimes horrific but often times humorous adventures of `Ash' and the Necronomicon.''

The new THQ team, Heavy Iron Studios, is composed of video game industry veterans whose credits include Parasite Eve.

The first game, Evil Dead: Ashes 2 Ashes, is being developed with the support of Evil Dead creators Sam Raimi, Robert Tapert and star Bruce Campbell, ``Evil Dead: Ashes 2 Ashes'' is a single-player, real-time 3-D adventure game with full-motion, layered 2-D backgrounds.

In ``Evil Dead: Ashes 2 Ashes,'' players will assume the role of Ash -- the square-jawed, shotgun-toting, chainsaw-armed hero from the ``Evil Dead'' trilogy -- in a new story that continues the ongoing saga of the Necronomicon ex Mortis, also known as the ``Book of the Dead.''

Taking place eight years after the last installment of the Evil Dead trilogy, Ash returns to the infamous cabin in the woods. There, he is again faced with the challenge of battling ``deadites'' and evil forces that have crossed over to our world because of the Necronomicon.

Stephen King Says Thank You with an Ambulance
Associated Press reports Stephen King's charity is donating $40,000 to help buy a new ambulance for a rescue service that came to the novelist's aid this summer.

It was just the latest in a string of high-priced thank yous the horror writer has sent since he was hit by a van as he walked along a rural road near his home in Lovell.

King earlier announced he would give $100,000 each to Central Maine Medical Center and Northern Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Bridgton - the two hospitals where he was treated.
