New Sleepy Hollow Sketches
Check out the official Sleepy Hollow site for new sketches from Tim Burton's soon to be classic! New sketches are posted every two days. Influenced by the British film studio Hammer and its new-expressionistic horror films of the '50s and '60s, Burton's drawings reflect this aesthetic.

Happy October 1st!
So what if it's not an official holiday...we here at ReallyScary have dubbed it, well, what else, the Beginning of ReallyScary Month! To celebrate we're planning on watching AMC's great horror movie line up and then popping in a couple of "scare-the-baggy-pants-off-ya" DVDs! We're leaning toward Nightmare on Elm Street parts 1, 3 and New Nightmare.

Driver Who Hit Stephen King Indicted
The Associated Press reports The driver who hit horror writer Stephen King with his van was indicted by a grand jury Thursday on charges of aggravated assault and driving to endanger.

The Oxford County grand jury found that Bryan E. Smith "did recklessly cause serious bodily injury to Stephen King" as the author was walking along a country road June 19 in Lovell. Aggravated assault carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. The other charge could bring Smith up to six months in prison.

King, who was walking against traffic while reading a book, was thrown 14 feet and suffered multiple broken bones and a collapsed lung. He is recovering at his Bangor home. King has said he believes Smith is a danger to himself and others and should not be allowed to drive.

Smith, 42, told police he lost control of his Dodge Caravan because he was distracted by his dog, and has called the incident "an accident without a cause." Smith has said that he is very sorry for what happened, but that the accident should not be treated as a crime.

District Attorney Norman Croteau said the case was not reviewed differently than any other case in which a pedestrian was injured.

Did You Miss Monsterfest Last Night?
If you did, then you missed Poe's The Masque of the Red Death with no commercials! (AMC rules!) Anyhoo, if you did miss it, don't be down, turn that frown upsidedown...and be sure to tune in to Monsterfest next Friday for another great dose of Eddie Poe with a lesser known flick, The Tomb of Ligeia. In this 1965 spooky movie, Vincent Price's dead wife keeps reappearing, be it as a cat or as his new bride. Roger Corman directed this little gem. Be sure to catch it Oct. 1 at 10 p.m. ET.

The following Friday, Oct. 8, AMC will air The Fall of the House of Usher and Oct. 15 a double bill of Teenage Caveman and The Undead.

This is all leading up to a tremendous set of great horror movies kicking off Halloween weekend. We'll update you later this week so you can lay in a large supply of popcorn, soda and take time off work.

Nightmare on Elm Street Platinum Boxed DVD Set Review
This set is tremendous. Even the cheese-city Nightmare #5 is fun to watch since New Line was kind enough to toss in a pair of 3D glasses. Can't watch it for too terribly long, since just like any 3D sequences, this'll give you a headache after awhile (you're not meant to look though blue and red cellophane for very long.) The 3D sequence is a little out of alignment in a couple of spots. So instead of looking at Freddy's five razor fingers jumping out of the screen at you, you're actually looking at 10 fingers on one hand and it kills a little of the "coming right at you" effect. But it's still a lot of fun and most of the sequences match up really well. We tried a couple different screens and found it works best on 32" or larger, when you sit back a minimum of eight to ten feet. Any closer and the effects are lost.

This set is loaded with extras and we had a ball trying to uncover them all. Oh yea, and the movies were really good too. We'll be back with more about this set later in the week.

Godsmack Brews Up a Video
The Universal Records band GODSMACK went deep into the woods of Massachusetts this past weekend for the making of the video for their forthcoming single, "Voodoo." GODSMACK lead singer, Sully Erna, has been a practicing Witch of the Wicca religion for the past decade, and joining the band for the video shoot was Erna's Wicca mentor and Salem, MA, Witch Laurie Cabot. They conducted a genuine Wicca ceremony, hoping to provide viewers with the truth behind some of the myths of witchcraft.

Wicca in the News:

April 1999: The U.S. Military makes history by acknowledging Wicca as an accepted form of religion. Wiccan rituals are now allowed on government property. Predictably enough, controversy ensues as local communities protest this decision.

May 1999: The nation's largest record retailer pulls the platinum-selling debut album by GODSMACK from their shelves. The retailer cited the inclusion of a pentagram in the album packaging as well as references to " ... witches in Salem" as grounds for removing the album.

July 1999: The motion picture "Blair Witch Project" is released nationally and earns $28.5 million at the box office in the first week. The movie goes on to become one of the most profitable movie in motion picture history by grossing over $108 million in less than four weeks.

GODSMACK will be hitting the road on their own headlining tour of the U.S. beginning in mid-October (dates to be announced).
