Halloween Horror Nights XI Details
Universal Studios has released the details for its Halloween Horror Nights XI running Oct. 5-7, Oct. 11-13, Oct. 17-21, Oct. 25- 28, Oct. 30-31 and Nov. 2-3. Beginning at 7 p.m. on these 19 evenings, the five new haunted houses featured in Halloween Horror Nights XI are:

Run - In this fastest-paced haunted house, guests thrown into a diabolical type of game-show, an environment of non-stop motion, as they are feverishly urged through mysterious hallways by gigantic Gameskeepers. Freaks and maniacs menace the guests with chainsaws, and in order to escape the horror, guests must literally run through a series of dark, winding corridors of padded walls and chain link fencing, with hardly a chance to catch their breath, let alone scream.

The Mummy Returns: The Curse Continues - The Universal Pictures film comes to Halloween Horror Nights in a cobweb-strewn maze of tomblike corridors, dark caverns and a collapsing ancient temple, where danger lurks in every step. The mummy of the evil Egyptian priest has arisen from his tomb and calls his minions to stop the visitors from escaping.

Pitch Black - A mysterious zone of darkness has appeared over the Uneeda Medical Supply Warehouse, causing bizarre, atmospheric disturbances, throwing the area into complete darkness. A government research team has disappeared into this gloom and subsequent visitors become totally immersed in the dark, moving through a completely tactile experience, being confronted by the fearsome, glowing faces of the warehouse's strange inhabitants.

Scary Tales - An abandoned carnival dark ride becomes a nightmarish fantasy world that has no happy ending. Characters from classic fairy tales come to life and are transformed into grotesque ghouls.

Superstitions - The recently discovered warehouse of archeologist Theodore Raven, an expert in the occult and supernatural, is the setting for this terrifying haunted house filled with ancient relics and urban legends. Guests encounter every superstition imaginable, from broken mirrors to black cats, as they plunge deeper and deeper into a superstitious nightmare.

Neil Gaiman Finishes Up Coraline
Neil Gaiman told CNN during a recent interview that he's already completed his next work. "The next big project after 'American Gods' is already written," he said. "This is more or less a first in my lifetime, being a book ahead. It's a children's book. It's called 'Coraline' (CORAL-line), and it's a novel for strange little girls of all ages and genders. Me and Lewis Carroll. Kids think it's an adventure story and really cool. Adults get nightmares -- my agent and my editor -- said, 'This is much too spooky for kids.'"

Check out the transcript for an online chat Gaiman had with CNN and fans.

The Bentmen Providing Soundtrack for Astro-Zombies
We just got a super cool e-mail from Frank Coleman of The Bentmen. The Bentmen are doing the soundtrack for Ted V. Mikels' next film, Mark of the Astro-Zombies and has a musical tribute to The Corpse Grinders included in the DVD just released from Image. Here's the whole shabang:

Hi there:

Your site is beautifully designed and truly marvelous in it's scope. Keep up the great work.

It is with great pleasure that today I am announcing the unveiling of The BENTMEN Corpse Grinders DVD Commentary Site:

http://www.bentmen.com/cg-album/

Here's the scoop: My band, the aforementioned BENTMEN, struck a deal with Ted V. Mikels whereby we'd do the soundtrack for his next film, MARK OF THE ASTRO-ZOMBIES, in exchange for putting one of our videos on the Corpse Grinders DVD. Accordingly, we decided to make a full-blown musical tribute to The Corpse Grinders, and sure enough, it's included on the just-released disc from Image.

We originally recorded a commentary track for the DVD and were going to include it, but the video is only three minutes long, and it was just ridiculous trying to say anything worthwhile in that short a time.

So we've decided to mimic the multi-track audio options on a typical DVD on our website. There's three tracks: production-related, technical and aesthetic, and it is our fervent hope that you will have as much fun reading about it as we had making it.

And of course, while you're there, you might want to check out some of our other BENTMEN MP3s & videos. This band is *NUTS!*

So there you have it. We're going to play at some of the horror/sci-fi conventions next year, so perhaps we'll see you there.

Thanks again -- and enjoy!

best,
FBC

Alone in the Dark Getting Movie Treatment
Corona reports Infogrames popular Alone in the Dark video game series is set to become a movie franchise. The pitch was just acquired by Dimension Films, the genre specialist division of Miramax (Scream trilogy). Dimension's Bob Weinstein and Andrew Rona will serve as producers on the film along with Angry Films' Don Murphy and Rick Benattar.

Screenwriter Hans Rodionoff (Man-Thing) pitched his idea for the movie's storyline and will now write the screenplay for the film. Corona's scooper only got a brief chunk of Rodionoff's idea for an Alone in the Dark movie: It's about a pair of supernatural investigators who are stranded on an island haunted by ghoulish creatures that live in the shadows. That sounds very similar to the synopsis given on the official website for Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare, the latest chapter in the game franchise. See for yourself:

"From the moment Edward Carnby and Aline Cedrac set foot on Shadow Island, they confronted by mysterious, evil creatures intent on thwarting their progress to recover 3 ancient tablets believed to hold the secret key to some incredible menacing phenomena. Fears threaten from every corner. The slightest shadow could be hiding deep secrets, or concealing worse nightmares..."
