Some Buffy Talk at Dragon*Con
A Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan passed along a little Buffy news to Dark Horizons. Producer Jane Espenson talked at Dragon*Con about the upcoming season and said they have a very interesting Riley storyline and it will indeed be the "Year of Xander." She also said that every actress who works with James Marsters (Spike) later comes up to the writers and says "You know, I think my character and James would be great together!" And that Lindsay Crouse (Prof. Walsh) had no desire to go on on the show and so they killed her off early as well. It was basically mutual according to Espenson.

Last House on the Left DVD Release!
Sex Gore Mutants has some great news regarding The Last House on the Left. Apparently 'La Dernière Maison Sur La Gauche' (The Last House on the Left for all you French class dropouts like ourselves) will make it way to DVD at last with a nifty French release.

Released by the Jean-Paul Bretagnolle Group at around 99 Francs (we're not real good at this either, but at the current exhange rate we have that somewhere in the $14 to $15 range), this disc will be in anarmorphic widescreen with both French and English mono audio (as well as removable French subtitles). Also added are a trailer, filmography and production notes. Though U.S. readers keep in mind this is a region 2 disc. But we all know there are ways around that pesky little problem...well, we don't of course, but we've heard tell...

Julia Roberts Considering Queen of the Damned?
A Corona Coming Attractions Warner Bros.-connected tipster says there are rumors regarding the casting of Lestat's mother in Queen of the Damned. They are apparently negotiating with Julia Roberts for her to appear as Gabrielle. It seems Warners wants to have at least one box office star in the cast (aside from Aaliyah and the still unconfirmed Heath Ledger). However, since Julia's part is going to be small, they are hoping that they could work out a deal to lower the actress' fees (Julia is contracted to do films for $20 million

Artisan Generating More Buzz for Blair Witch Sequel
Variety reports Artisan Entertainment has produced The Burkittsville 7, a half-hour mock documentary that's part of a joint marketing campaign with Showtime. The goal: to get cable subscribers to watch its exclusive pay-TV showing of The Blair Witch Project this month.

The Burkittsville 7 is also the opening shot in a promotional drive to grab people's attention before the theatrical premiere of the sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2, which hits U.S. screens Oct. 27.

The original movie and the half-hour docu will run back to back July 16, boosted by a free preview of Showtime in up to 40 million cable homes.

For Artisan, the documentary "presents the back story of 'Blair Witch Project' in an entertaining way, linking it to the first movie but also alerting viewers that there's new content coming in the form of a sequel," says Amorette Jones, executive VP of worldwide marketing.

Burkittsville 7 is not the only mock documentary Artisan has up its sleeve to help promote the $13.5 million Book of Shadows. An hourlong documentary will run on the Sci-Fi Channel in October as a direct tie-in to the theatrical picture.

The Crow: Salvation Review So-So
Comics2Film reports The Crow: Salvation was screened at the Club 13 screening room in Paris. Daily Variety presented a review of the latest big-screen incarnation of James O'Barr's undead avenger. In her review, Lisa Nesselson calls the movie "reasonably suspenseful" and "adequately made." Although the critic didn't rave about the movie, she did say that "while the previous installment in the series was completely for the birds, this one should fly on video and cable."

It's set to have a U.S. screening at Dragon*Con this weekend.

Did Anchor Bay Announce Re-animator Rights Too Early?
There seems to be a little bit of confusion regarding whether or not Anchor Bay has the rights to Re-animator [on their website they've listed it for a August 2001 release]. Brian Yunza, director of Re-animator, talked with DVD Nightmare about this and said that no deal has been officially signed with Anchor Bay yet and says "I am in talks with them through an intermediary, but no deal is signed. So it surprises me that they have announced the title, since they don't have the rights."

Check out http://www.dvdnightmare.com/ for more details on this.

Stephen King Will Release The Plant Online
Stephen King recently had this posted on his official website regarding the release of the story The Plant on the internet:

The response to my query about The Plant was small but enthusiastic. You seem to want it, so I am going to put it up. Look for the first installment around mid-July, and look for an update on this whole deal around July 8th. Keep in mind that this is a work in progress-if you decide to buy into the process, do so with that in mind.

Don't send any money until the story goes up. But when it does come time to pay, remember the Philtrum Press motto: "It takes a really bad guy to steal from a blind newsboy."

New Title Change for 'Still Know Summer 3'
Slasher Mansion sent us over this piece of news. Reportedly the next 'Know What You Did Summer' flick (third in the series) is now being called I Will Never Forget What You Did Last Summer. They are apparently saving 'I Will Always Know' for the last segment. Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. have signed on, but they haven't got Brandy just yet. Kevin Williamson is writing and Ben Willis from the first two will not be the killer as Williamson intended for him to be dead after the first one.

Ed Gein's Gravestone Stolen
Dark Echo reports the gravestone of Ed Gein, the murderous farmhand who has inspired many horror writers, has been stolen from a cemetery in Plainfield, WI. Waushara County Sheriff Patrick Fox said he would not be surprised if the headstone stolen from Gein's cemetery plot on June 15 turned up on an online auction site. "You never know where this thing is going to turn up," Fox told APBnews.com. "Remember, [Jeffrey] Dahmer's stuff sold for big bucks. There's people out there that think it's just neat to have, I'm sure." The marker weighs 150 to 200 pounds, which means more than one thief likely stole the gravestone, Fox said.

Currently, there are 42 Ed Gein related auctions on eBay.

Paramount has delayed the Kim Basinger creepy flick Bless the Child from a July 21 release to Aug. 11, according to Dark Horizons. Check out the trailer and synopsis on the official site at http://www.blessthechild.com/.

Devilish Goings On with Cherry Falls Movie
For those looking for any tiny tidbit of information regarding Cherry Falls, here's one. Dark Horizon's reports that a couple of weeks of filming took place at the Governor's School in Richmond, Virginia (the same town where Hannibal is now shooting) and according to a DH tipster the crew painted the central stairway of the school with demonic symbols and a large sketch of Satan.

Michael Jackson's Poe Vision Moving Forward
Fox News has brought more reports (via Dark Horizons) regarding the Really Scary possibility that Michael Jackson would be part of an Edgar Allan Poe movie. Apparently the cameras are set to roll in Spring next year on the flick now titled "The Nightmares of Edgar Allan Poe." Montreal is set to be the likely location for shooting on the movie, which concentrates on Poe's life during the final week before his violent death in 1849, a week where he is haunted by visions of several horrific characters he created.

Mark Wahlberg Joins Tim Burton On Planet of the Apes
Variety reports Mark Wahlberg has signed to take the lead role in 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes in a two-picture deal that also includes a sequel.

Director Tim Burton is scheduled to begin shooting in the fall, with Fox planning a high-profile release in summer 2001.

Written by Bill Broyles, the story behind the latest version of the 'Apes' saga is still a closely guarded secret. It's said to be neither a sequel nor a remake, but rather a reimagining of the original series of five 'Apes' pictures released between 1968 and 1973.
