Leaving Angel will be Jane Espenson, Drew Greenberg, David Greenwalt, Rebecca Rand Kirshner, Tim Minear (who has left to
oversee the supernatural drama Wonderfalls), Marti Noxon (who left to oversee the supernatural Still Life at Fox), Doug Petrie and Mere Smith. That's some serious talent headed out the door.

Exorcist Prequel Trailer Description
DH reports LatinoReview has posted up a description of the first teaser trailer for next year's Exorcist: The Beginning -- there's a spoiler in it:
"Starts with the voice over of Father Damien asking Regan all the questions he asked from the first film, "who am I talking to, how old are you," in which Regan replies "12" and then all of a sudden you see Regan's ugly possessed face on the screen, and it then turns black and you see images of the first film going backwards, you see Father Damien who jumped out the window and fall on the stairs fly backwards up to the window and into Regan's room, and you see Father Merrin go backwards into the taxi in front of Regan's house and [which is shown on the Exorcist poster] quickly the screen turns black. Then the words "GO BACK, GO BACK, GO BACK, GO BACK .....TO THE BEGINNING" appear on the screen. You then see the young boy who is now possessed by the devil, and all sorts of action starts popping up, like the young priest played by Gabriel Mann in a tomb flying in the air dropping his rosary, and it ends with the theme song from the first Exorcist."

Dark Horizons reports Meryl Streep has been confirmed for the role of Mrs. Iselin in the remake of The Manchurian Candidate, the role played by Angela Lansbury in the original. Burton To Direct Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

Cradle is an apocalyptic satire about a group of people in pursuit of Ice-9, a substance which can freeze water at room temperature and in large amounts cause an ice age. Kelly is expected to pen the script whilst Aronofsky will helm, although both have other projects in the works beforehand -- Kelly's Knowing is a supernatural thriller about a time capsule containing drawings which see into the future which Fox Searchlight has just picked up, while Aronofsky will helm a live-action adaptation of the Kazuo Koike-created samurai graphic novel Lone Wolf & Cub for Paramount.
Dinner for Five Picked Up
It's not horror but it's one helluva good show so we wanted to pass this along. Zen reports IFC has announced that they are renewing Jon Favreau's Dinner for Five for a third season. The new season will begin taping in August for a premiere in March 2004.
If you've ever been interested in the real stories from Hollywood, old and new, check this show out. Instead of celebs pushing their latest whatever-the-hell during the conversation, this is just interesting people talking about interesting things (sort of like Gossamer - obscure Bugs Bunny reference alert). And if any of you saw the vitriol that flew back and forth between Richard Lewis and Dom DeLuise, then you know exactly what we're talking about. Thought there was going to be a Dinner for Five Throwdown. No love between the funnymen.

M. Night Shyamalan Heads for The Woods
Reuters reports (via Zen) that M. Night Shyamalan has made his next project The Woods. Ashton Kutcher, Kirsten Dunst and Joaquin Phoenix (Signs) are in negotiations to star in the film, which centers around a Pennslyvania community in 1897 that lives with the knowledge that a mythical race of creatures lives in the forest surrounding their town.
"There are not many original period pieces out there, but I had this idea for one and thought it would be a good challenge," said Shyamalan. "The story is very literary and elegant but still terrifying." Disney expects the film to begin production in October for a summer 2004 release.
