McFarlane Launches Entire 2001 Lineup Online for Fans
Todd McFarlane's site Spawn.com has put together an absolutely amazing section of their site to show their Toy Fair 2001 lineup. Normally this is the sort of stuff that only media and buyers get to take a look at during Toy Fair but in a normal fan-friendly move that McFarlane is famous for, he's presented the entire catalog online, as well as a virtual tour of the actual showroom at Toy Fair.

Some of the horror highlights (and there are many!) include the Movie Maniacs 4 lineup that includes the Blair Witch, Evil Ash, Terminator (T 800), T1000 (2 versions), Candyman and a spectacular boxed set for Jaws (pictured here).

McFarlane's also offering two more 18" figures to the Movie Maniac line. This time it's the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Ash from Army of Darkness. The detail on these is stunning.

Hold on to your butts, because this year McFarlane isn't stopping with just the movie maniacs line. There will also be the Tortured Souls figures from Clive Barker and these aren't just pushing the envelope of graphically intense figures, it's shredding it. Just take a look at the figure called The Fix and you'll know exactly what we're talking about!

And in another beautiful line comes the H.R. Giger figures. The picture here shows one of them. It's difficult not to believe that's the original Giger art but it is actually a figure (it's almost too tough not to call it a statue).

They are also launching a fantastic looking anime line, which includes a beautiful Ghost in the Shell figure. For more information and all the photos for the entire 2001 McFarlane lineup, click here for the official site.

Hannibal Producer Plans on Prequel and Another Sequel
Dark Horizons reports Caltanet Cinema attended the Hannibal press conference at the Berlin Film Festival and almost right from the start a question was asked to Producer Dino DeLaurentiis about doing the first Lecter novel Red Dragon again (for those not in the know, Michael Mann adapted it in 1986 under the title Manhunter). DeLaurentiis indicated the movie will be "a remake of Manhunter, but there will also a sequel to Hannibal (ie. a fourth chapter). He explained his remake of Manhunter by saying the audience wants to know something more about the origins of the famous Doctor". Would Hopkins participate? Hopkins says he'll decide once he reads the script (currently being worked on by Ted Tally). De Laurentiis also indicated he was going to try and get a lot of the cast and crew who worked on Hannibal to come back and do Red Dragon.

Hannibal Gobbles Up Box Office Records
Variety reports Hannibal grossed a record-breaking $58 million in its first three days of release in the United States and Canada, according to studio estimates issued on Sunday.

If the numbers hold Hannibal will replace 2000's Mission: Impossible II ($57.9 million) as the third-highest bow in movie history, after 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park ($72 million) and 1999's Star Wars: Episode One -- The Phantom Menace ($64.8 million). It also set new records for a non-summer opening, an R-rated release and for a release by domestic distributor Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc.

"I must confess I expected it to be big, but not this big," Hannibal producer Dino De Laurentiis told Reuters from Berlin.

Ashley Laurence Back In Sixth Hellraiser?
Several sites are reporting (Cinescape, eSplatter, Gorezone) that Ashley Laurence is going to be in the sixth Hellraiser movie after all. Laurence, who appeared in the first two films will return to reprise her role. Though previous word had it that her part had been written out, now it appears she has been written back in, which still suggests a pretty small role in the coming film. As before, Doug Bradley will be reprising his role of Pinhead as well.

Universal Moves Mummy Sequel Into Box Office Weekend Battle
Variety reports Universal has moved up the release date one week on its sequel to 1999's hit The Mummy slotting The Mummy Returns to open May 4. In doing so, Universal theoretically has chosen to open against five other wide releases rather than remaining in a May 11 weekend that so far has no other set bows.

But what the move actually represents is a challenge to all comers to take their best shot against a picture the studio now believes -- after screening an early cut -- has a good chance of big box office success.

"Mummy is a big gun, and when you're a big gun you choose your date and let others adjust to you," said Universal distribution president Nikki Rocco.

Urban Legend 3 Rumors Are Just That
Our good buddy Tom over at Slasher Mansion dropped us a line:

Hello,

Recently I did an interview with John Ottman (Urban Legends director) for my site and mentioned the rumours I had been reading regarding UL3. He checked on it and wrote me back. Here's what he said...

"By the way - called Phoenix Pictures and they have no idea about UL3. This is quite a detail filled rumor!"

So, it looks like it's not going to happen. At least not yet. I thought you'd like to know.

Yours truly,
Tom Wescott

Thanks Tom!

Portrait of a Serial Killer Director Signs New Deal
According to Daily Variety (via Hellnotes), producer-director Chuck Parello (Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer 2, Ed Gein) has signed a three-picture deal with Filmax Group. The first movie in the contract will reportedly be The Werewolf of Allariz. This comes from a short story by Alfredo Conde, based on a real-life incident from Spain in 1850, in which a man was acquitted of a series of murders after pleading to the court that he was a werewolf. Shooting is scheduled to take place in Spain next fall. Parello will reportedly co-write the script with an unnamed Spanish writer.

A British Tabloid Story Not True...We Can't Believe It
Definitely coming as no suprise, Daily Variety columnist Michael Fleming reports that the Alien 5 stuff that the British Sunday Express reported last week, isn't true. Sigourney Weaver denied the story, as well. Fleming said no new Alien project is in the works and that information about the film came from an old press junket interview.
