Halloween 8 Shooting Rumors
Dark Horizons got some interesting news/rumor from an anonymous source about the shooting of Halloween 8. Here it goes:
Trancas International Films, the production company, is in overdrive, trying to get the thing shooting before the SAG strike. However, there's a bit of a standoff in the company.
Moustapha Akkad, series 'overlord,' is in a bit of a tussel with Paul Freeman, who is producing his fourth film. Akkad wants to hold off the film until next year and use a different script, having taken fan reactions of the story to heart. However, Freeman wants to shoot with what they have and get it out this October. (Freeman also rushed the shoot of Halloween: H20 and altered much of Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers.) Right now, however, it appears Akkad has the favor of Miramax. He has pitched a separate story which would tie the entire series (minus Halloween III: Season of the Witch) into the same world of thought.
While known for being stubborn, Disney has given the early thumbs-up to his story, as it has the potential to "set the world on fire the same way Scream did," or so says an employee at Trancas International.

Newmarket Picks Up Poe Project
Variety reports Craig Rosenberg has scared up a Newmarket (the company that put out the current Guy Pearce hit Memento) deal to write and direct Nevermore: The Nightmares of Edgar Allan Poe, a thriller in which the famous writer plays the prime role in a murder mystery.
The Neal Moritz-produced film puts Poe in the action much the way the Bard was used in Shakespeare in Love. Grieving the traumatic death of his wife in Baltimore, Poe watches as a series of murders unfold, replicating exact details from his fictional horror. The mystery is populated with characters from his own books, as he stays with Roderick Usher from Fall of the House of Usher.

Both Omero and I were initially gutted because we had worked so hard. But we're all in it together and everyone wants to get the movie back on track."

Japanese Horror Flick Secures Distribution
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's official Cannes selection Kairo (aka Pulse) has been acquired in a low-seven-figure deal for theatrical distribution in nearly all English-speaking territories, exception the United Kingdom, by independent production outfit Distant Horizon.
Distant Horizon CEO Anant Singh said the company hopes to secure a fall U.S. release for the Japanese-language horror film, which was made on a $3.6 million budget.
Kairo follows an Internet rumor about a ghost Web site. As more and more people tap into the site's frightening images of the dead, a supernatural force controlling it begins to dominate the people's lives. The film stars Haruhiko Kato and Kumiko Aso.
