Latest Casting for Friday the 13th Remake

Bloody Disgusting reports that Danielle Panabaker (Mr. Brooks, Sky High), Aaron Yoo (Disturbia, 21) and Travis Van Winkle (Transformers, Left in Darkness, Asylum) are the latest camp counselors to head for Camp Crystal Lake. They will join Jared Padalecki, Derek Mears and Amanda Righetti in Platinum Dunes' remake of Friday the 13th, which arrives in theaters Friday, February 13, 2009.

South Korea Crazy for Evil Dead: The Musical

Evil Dead: The Musical may not have been a killer hit Off Broadway, but it's slaying them in South Korea. Variety says the campy Canadian musical based on Sam Raimi's cult slasher films is packing them in at the Chungmu Art Hall Theater, where it opened March 19 and is scheduled to run through June 14.

According to lead producer Jeffrey Latimer, various representatives of the Japanese market are negotiating for the property, while a German production also has been signed for later this year. Back in Toronto, where the musical gorefest began in 2003, the show reopened for the fifth time on Feb. 14 and has just been held over into summer.

So how does a show that failed commercially in Gotham manage to spin out a life halfway around the world? There are a couple of explanations. One is the fact that Korea is, quite simply, crazy for musical theater.

"The passion for musicals in Korea is unbelievable," says Adam Gentle, international licensing manager for the Broadway Asia Co. "There were 160 individual musical productions produced last year in Seoul. Our company alone grossed $28 million from this city in 2007."

Shia LaBeouf Signs on for Dark Fields

Variety reports Shia LaBeouf (Transformers, Disturbia) has signed on to star in Universal's techno thriller Dark Fields. Neil Burger (The Illusionist) will direct the pic, which is based on Alan Glynn's novel 2002 The Dark Fields.

Story centers on a young man who comes into possession of the ultimate smart pill and the events that ensue. LaBeouf will next be seen in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Prom Night Remake Tops Box Office

The AP reports audiences made a date with Prom Night, the remake of the 1980 slasher flick that took in $22.7 million to debut as the weekend’s No. 1 movie, according to studio estimates Sunday. The movie, released by Sony’s Screen Gems banner, stars Brittany Snow as a teen terrorized by a psycho killer on prom night.

"Do you know what's Really Scary? You want to forget something. Totally wipe it off your mind. But you never can. It can't go away, you see. And... and it follows you around like a ghost."
--Eun-ju, A Tale of Two Sisters

'Well, we need to nip this thing in the bud. I mean, otherwise, things are going to get Really Scary.'
--Cordelia Chase, Buffy the Vampire Slayer

'From here on, it gets Really Scary.'
--Geoffrey Rush, House on Haunted Hill

    'Wanna see something Really Scary?'
--Dan Aykroyd, Twilight Zone The Movie
