Star Trek XI First Teaser Art Revealed

Paramount just sent along the teaser poster for Star Trek XI, set to hit theaters in 2008. The production team that now holds the creative reins for the next Star Trek movie project released this artwork this weekend (to coincide with Comic-Con). Looking a bit like an era past, as well as a vision yet to be revealed. With this familiar imagery, the direction of the next movie is now officially open to speculation.

J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof are the film's producers; Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers. Visitors to the Paramount Pictures booth this morning at Comic-Con in San Diego got their hands on a miniposter version.

Paramount Adapting Damn Nation Comic to Flick

Sci Fi Wire reports Andrew Cosby, creator of the Sci Fi original series Eureka, said a film based on his Dark Horse comic-book miniseries Damn Nation, is in the works. "It's at Paramount, where [he and co-screenwriter Jaime Paglia] are about to start on the script right now," Cosby said. "We had to put the script off a little bit to finish the series (Eureka), and the minute we're done with [the first season], that's the project I'm jumping into, probably in a couple of weeks."

Logan's Run Pushed Back for Superman Sequel?

Gaming network G4 reports that Bryan Singer told fans at the Comic-Con that he would like to direct the Superman sequel. "I haven't concluded a deal to do it yet, which is always iffy," Singer said. "But my intention is to do it. My intention is to do it for 2009. ... this one, the next one, enables me to get all Wrath of Khan on it."

In related Singer news, Sci Fi Wire reports that he won't be able to direct his proposed remake of Logan's Run until after he completes the expected sequel to Superman Returns. Singer may shoot a smaller film before he begins the Superman sequel, but added in a news conference: "Unfortunately, [Logan's Run's] not a smaller film, so we're going to hold that. We're going to hold onto that."

Producer Joel Silver held out hope that Singer would eventually do the film, though he added that he would find another director if necessary. "I would, but I want to do it with Bryan," Silver told Sci Fi Wire. "He had the excitement about making it. There's a lot of of stuff that's already out there that he's worked on. ... He can do whatever he wants. ... It's very smart, very complex piece of material that he's always wanted to make. But if he's not going to do it, then I [would] make it. But I'm hoping he'll do it."

    Del Toro's Labyrinth & Arquette's The Tripper

While we unfortunately couldn't make it to Comic-Con (poverty), Johnny Butane over at Dread Central most certainly did and he recently popped up some very cool highlights of the kickoff. He checked out The Tripper panel, which features the directorial debut of David Arquette and is produced by Steve Niles (30 Days of Nights), and stars Jason Mewes, Thomas Jane, Paul Ruebens, and Chris Nelson.

He also sat in on the Pan's Labyrinth panel, which helmer Guillermo del Toro and star Doug Jones appeared on. They debuted the American trailer for Pan’s, which Guillermo said is the film he's most proud of to date. That's impressive stuff from the man who directed the brilliant Devil's Backbone. Another quick comicbook related bit was Doug Jones neither confirming nor denying that he's playing Silver Surfer but did hint that he's in talks for it. Read Butane's entire report here.

Posters from Planet Terror & Death Proof

Dread Central has a shot of a couple of posters hanging in the NECA booth at Comic-Con that hint at some stuff from Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Planet Terror and Death Proof. Looks like NECA will be making figures for these flicks down the road. Check it.

Marvel Announces Iron Man Toon Prior to Feature Film

Variety reports Iron Man will come to the small screen before it hits the megaplex. Marvel is developing an Iron Man cartoon skein for next fall, months before the Jon Favreau-helmed Iron Man is scheduled to premiere.

The strategy is similar to that for the Fantastic Four franchise which was adapted for television and will debut on Cartoon Network in August. The live-action film Fantastic Four 2, produced by 20th Century Fox is skedded for theaters in June 2007.

Marvel announced the Iron Man skein at a party to unveil new Marvel-inspired Hasbro toys at Comic-Con in San Diego.

28 Days Later Scribes HALO Script Tossed

JoBlo reports that what seemed like a production on the fast track with the feature adaptation of the popular video game HALO is shaping up to be yet another horror story of production hell as the producers recently decided to toss out 28 Days Later scribe Alex Garland's script and handed writing duties to novelist/screenwriter DB Weiss. He recently spoke to GameSetWatch about his involvement in the project and had this to say "Yeah, I'm pretty excited about it. And I did always think there was a lot more to the Halo universe than most games -- I remember switching to 'Easy' mode on the first game, so I could plow through it more quickly and find out what happened next."

Nightmares & Dreamscapes Grabs Strong Ratings

THR reports the TNT anthology Nightmares & Dreamscapes: From the Stories of Stephen King garnered strong ratings in its July 12 debut, finishing number one and number two in basic cable for the night with back-to-back episodes.

The first installment of the anthology, William Hurt's Battleground, drew 5.2 million total viewers at 9 p.m. Its 18-49 and 25-54 demographic totals were the highest a scripted cable series has seen year-to-date, topping a mark set last week by the new USA Network drama Psych.

A second Nightmares episode at 10 p.m., Crouch End, reached 4.8 million. Nightmares & Dreamscapes is a limited series that will air for the next three weeks on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.

Six Feet Under Thesp Joins Sci Fi's The Lost Room

Sci Fi Channel has tapped Six Feet Under star Peter Krause to topline event series The Lost Room and has resurrected the dormant action pilot Painkiller Jane, (based on a comicbook series) ordering 22 one-hour episodes.

Krause will star as an everyday sleuth in the eight-hour Lost Room series, previously called Motel Man, which Sci Fi greenlit to production earlier this year. Produced by Lionsgate Television, story follows a detective who discovers a seemingly ordinary motel room key that opens up a portal to alternate worlds and lets loose a set of mundane objects with mysterious powers.

Production begins in New Mexico next week in time for a December premiere.

    Painkiller Jane
is a superhero actioner about a young Marine officer with self-healing powers. The series order arrives more than a year after the pilot was shot. The show represents the third consecutive original series ordered by Sci Fi that falls outside the space genre. Others are quirky small town drama Eureka, premiering July 18, and sleuth hour The Dresden Files, on the docket for later this year.

Casting for Flick Based on Hitchcock Unfinished Work

Dan Fogler is set to play Alfred Hitchcock in the indie thriller Number Thirteen, which Chase Palmer wrote and will direct.

Variety reports Ewan McGregor and Geoffrey Rush are circling the other lead roles.

Drama centers on Hitchcock's lost and unfinished first film, Number Thirteen. In this drama, the helmer gets caught up in a Hitchcockian dilemma when he ends up in a love triangle with two crew members while making the film. When the lead actor turns up dead, the editor suspects the director and tries to uncover the truth.

Warner Taps Scribes for Fantasy Epic Lamora

Variety reports Warner Bros. Pictures has tapped the Hageman brothers to adapt Brit author Scott Lynch's fantasy epic "The Lies of Locke Lamora." Michael De Luca and Julie Yorn are producing for the studio.

Locke Lamora, the first of a seven-book series, hit the stands earlier this summer in the U.K. and U.S. to glowing reviews.

Storyline revolves around the adventure of a likable con artist as he and his band of followers, the Gentlemen Bastards, navigate the Venice-like city of Camorr.

De Luca will produce through his Michael De Luca Prods. Yorn (The Exorcism of Emily Rose) is president of Firm Films.
