Stephen King Brings Roland to Marvel Comics

Newsarama reports (via Stephen King News) Stephen King and Marvel Comics will team up this spring to launch a new comic book series adapted from The Dark Tower. The first issue is scheduled to debut in April 2006.

The series will expand the saga of King's epic hero, Roland Deschain.

"As a lifelong fan of Marvel comic books, and as an adult reader who's seen comics 'come of age' and take their rightful place in the world of fantasy and science fiction, I'm excited to be a part of Roland's new incarnation," King said.

The series will be illustrated by Eisner-award winning artist Jae Lee.

King continued, "I love Jae Lee's work, and I think this is going to be a dynamite partnership. Frankly, I can't wait."

    Warner Bros Bringing Back Creepshow

Creepshow, the 1982 horror anthology movie written by Stephen King and directed by George A. Romero, is getting the remake treatment from Warner Bros, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In the original anthology the stories, which were written in the 1950s EC Comics style, were unconnected. This time around the plan is to structure the new movie where stories will have linking characters and situations. A screenwriter has not yet been chosen for the project. The original spawned two sequels, and the studio is viewing the remake as a way to kick-start a franchise.

    Batman Begins Sequel Announced

An as yet untitled sequel to Batman Begins has been announced by Warner Bros. Christian Bale and Michael Caine are the only talent attached officially. No director was named, although David Goyer is listed as writer.

Mudvayne are touring in support of new album, "Lost And Found", featuring the song Forget to Remember, which is also the first single from the Saw II soundtrack. The dark, chilling video was shot by the film's director, Darren Bousman, and features footage from the upcoming Lion's Gate thriller.

    Another Asian Horror Remake

Variety reports Gold Circle Films and Vertigo Entertainment are teaming to produce In-Utero, a remake of Hong Kong horror pic Jian Gui 2 (The Eye 2). New Line has picked up domestic distribution rights.

A U.S. remake of the original pic, which had a completely separate plot, is in development with Vertigo at Paramount. You know the remake death knell tolls when they describe a movie as a U.S. remake but with a completely different plot. Wouldn't that be known as a completely different movie? We digress.

The film is about a pregnant woman who has a near-death experience that results in her seeing dead spirits. We just can't help ourselves, we digress again - dead spirits? As opposed to live spirits...like a couple of our favorites Capt. Morgan and Jose Cuervo?

Scribe Todd Stein has been set to adapt and Gold Circle (My Big Fat Greek Wedding) will finance with a budget around $25 million. Company has a first-look deal with Universal, which passed on the pic. Gold Circle and Vertigo also are teaming on horror pic Smoke.

Masters of Horror CD Out Tuesday

Featuring music from Mudvayne, System of a Down and Buckethead, the Masters of Horror CD will hit stores Tuesday. It's a dual-disc set of new and previously unreleased material from over 25 rock, metal and punk artists including the aforementioned bands plus Norma Jean, Mastodon, Shadows Fall, Alkaline Trio, From Autumn to Ashes, Funeral for a Friend and more.

Garris explains the melding of hard-hitting music and moving images best by stating, "Horror is to cinema what rock n' roll is to music: rebellious, transgressive, loud and abrasive. The sound in horror is every bit as important as the vision. Horror can be quiet and sneak up on you, and just give you a chill. Or it can grab you by the throat and rip out your trachea. We hope to embrace the full range on the Masters of Horror soundtrack."

Sequel for Henry Portrait of Serial Killer?

Michael Rooker (Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer) tells Really Scary there's definitely a possibility we'll see another go-round for Henry.

"We're thinking about it," Rooker said. "We're not sure what we're going to do. But everything's an open book right now. I know John (McNaughton, original director) and I want to do something together. Maybe we'll find somebody who'll give us some money to do something but who knows?"

Rooker also talked a bit about putting together the recent anniversary edition of the DVD. "It was really interesting having to talk about my audition. When I came into the audition John was hoping and praying that I could actually act because I sure as hell looked like the role [laughs]."

Masters of Horror Series First Episode

Showtime's Masters of Horror series, kicking off Oct. 28, will debut with the Don Coscarelli directed adaptation of Joe Lansdale's Incident On and Off a Mountain Road.

This episode pits Ellen (Bree Turner), a seemingly defenseless young woman, against Moonface, a deformed and demented serial killer. As the story cuts back and forth in time, we slowly discover that our heroine is not as helpless, nor as innocent as she initially seems. Trained by her abusive husband Bruce (Ethan Embry) to be a survivalist, instructed to use any and every available object as a weapon in a time of need, Ellen gets to test the real life application of these lessons. Ultimately, chained to the floor of Moonface's horrific cabin with a most unsavory roommate (Angus Scrimm), she races against the clock to free herself before she meets a grisly fate.
