Child's Play Director Taking On TV Suspense Reuters reports ABC has given a script commitment to Kill Switch, an hourlong suspense drama from Don Mancini, who created the Child's Play horror film franchise in the late 1980s.
It centers on a woman who is executed for killing her daughter's murderer and then enters a sort of purgatory, wherein every week she finds herself in the body of someone about to be killed. It's up to her to figure out who the murderer will be and prevent it from happening.
Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry will serve as an executive producer. "Instead of a whodunit, it's a who-will-do-it," Cherry said. Mancini is writing the pilot and also will executive produce.
Renee Zellweger Signs On for The Eye Remake Variety reports Renee Zellweger has signed on for the Paramount remake of the asian horror flick The Eye. The new version, similiarly to the original, is described as a story about a girl who sees more than she bargained for when she regains her vision after a cornea transplant. Hideo Nakata is set to direct.
The original version, produced by Thailand-based Oxide and Danny Pang, grossed $10 million-plus worldwide. Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner, who acquired remake rights in 2002, are producing.

Villains Named for Spider-Man 3 Kirsten Dunst, who will reprise the role of Mary Jane Watson in Sam Raimi's upcoming third Spider-Man movie, has confirmed rumors that the sequel's villains will be Venom and Sandman, Zap2It reported (via Sci Fi). The report confirms widespread rumors that Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace would play the villains, though Sony and Marvel have so far declined to comment.
"Maybe I wasn't supposed to say that," Dunst said while promoting her new movie Elizabethtown. When she checked with her representative, the rep assured her that the information has already been released, the site reported.
Dunst was less clear on who would play whom. At first, she said that Church would play Venom and Grace would take on Sandman. She then reversed herself when a journalist expressed disbelief. "It's the other way around," she reportedly said. "You're right."

Principal Photography Starts on Skinwalkers Principal photography has kicked off for Lion Gate's Skinwalkers, starring Jason Behr (The Grudge), Elias Koteas (Collateral Damage) and Rhona Mitra (Boston Legal).
The film tells the story of Timothy, a 12-year-old boy, who suddenly finds himself at the center of a battle between two warring groups of werewolves. One group of werewolves is sworn to protect him, the other group is trying to kill him - and the young boy's mother has to find out why her son is at the center of the conflict before time runs out.
Skinwalkers marks Lions Gate's first collaboration with another genre firm, Constantin Film (Resident Evil, Wrong Turn).
Principal photography began Sept. 19 and runs through Nov. 11 in Toronto and surrounding region. It's slated for wide North American release in 2006. The film will be directed by Jim Isaac, who directed the special effects for Naked Lunch, Existenz and The Fly. This movie also marks Lions Gate's first collaboration with Stan Winston. "I'm very pleased and excited to begin principal photography on Skinwalkers. Jim Isaac and the producers have assembled an incredible cast, the locations and production design are tremendous, and the creatures created by Stan Winston Studios will set a new high mark in the annals of horror filmmaking," said Producer Don Carmody.
Additional cast includes Kim Coates (Silent Hill), Natassia Malthe (Elektra), Sarah Carter (Final Destination), Tom Jackson (North of 60), Shawn Roberts (Land of the Dead), Matthew Knight (The Greatest Game Ever Played), and Lyriq Bent (Saw 2). The script was written by the writing team of James DeMonaco (Assault of Precinct 13), Todd Harthan (Crossing Jordan) and James Roday (Dukes of Hazzard movie).

New Posters for Three Extremes & Saw 2 Here's a peek at two new horror flick posters. First up is the latest poster for Saw 2 and the other is for Three Extremes. We've gone on about Saw 2 already but we haven't talked about Three Extremes yet so here's a bit about that one:
Three Extremes is a triptych of horror stories uniting three of East Asia's most compelling directors - Japanese cult figure Takashi Miike, Hong Kong's Fruit Chan, and Korea's award-winning Park Chan-Wook. Using distinctive cinematic styles that span dream-like minimalism, savage comedy and baroque horror, these cutting-edge directors penetrate the dark heart of desire, examining the ghastly urges that transform ordinary people into monsters. Stylish, twisted and laced with haunting imagery, Three Extremes opens Oct. 28.

Cronenberg Mulling London Fields? David Cronenberg told Sci Fi Wire his next movie may be a big-screen adaptation of the Martin Amis supernatural-tinged novel London Fields. In the story, a super-sexy psychic senses that she's soon to be killed by one of two men she's recently met in a London pub and sets about making her premonition a reality.
"It's a possibility," Cronenberg said in an interview while promoting his latest film, A History of Violence. "I actually don't know. The deal has not been made yet. It would be an independently financed film, which means it will take some time to put the financing together...It's brilliant writing. Amis is a fantastic writer, and [London Fields] is a very interesting meditation on suicide and murder."

Venom Opening Despite Louisiana Ties It could have been just another slasher flick, and one of the last of a rush of films Miramax is releasing as the founding Weinstein brothers sever ties with parent company Disney for good.
But Venom, about a voodoo-crazed serial killer, depicts murder and mayhem in the Louisiana swamps, debuts just a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina. Emily Bear, a spokeswoman for Dimension Films, told the AP that Venom was scheduled months ago for release this Friday, far prior to the hurricane.
"The film's plot is completely unrelated to the disaster in New Orleans," she said. " 'Venom' is a fictional horror film."
Miramax couldn't postpone the release of Venom even if it wanted to, though. The company must clear its slate of films by September 30 as part of Harvey and Bob Weinstein's break with Disney. The movie is being released nationwide, but only on about 800 screens.
Keanu Says No to Constantine Sequel Sci Fi Wire reports Keanu Reeves said he wouldn't take on the Constantine role for a sequel. "Not with me," Reeves said flatly when asked about it during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Reeves said that he liked the character and thought it was a well-rounded part, but that the film version of the Hellblazer series from DC/Vertigo comics wasn't enough of a moneymaker to warrant a sequel. The movie made $75 million domestically and more than double that overseas, but cost Warner Brothers about $100 million to make.
Is there any hope for Constantine 2? "No," Reeves said. "We didn't quite make it."
Meanwhile, Reeves said that he is excited about two other genre projects he has coming up. "I did a movie with Richard Linklater called A Scanner Darkly, which is a Philip K. Dick adaptation," Reeves said.
Constantine Director Taking On I Am Legend Variety reports Constantine director Francis Lawrence has signed on for I Am Legend. Based on the Richard Matheson novel, it's a project that's been in development hell for years. Will Smith and Ridley Scott are among those formerly attached.

Long-Lost Repairman Jack Story Now Available A long-lost Repairman Jack story from F. Paul Wilson is now available as a download from Amazon.com's new short-fiction project, Amazon Shorts. The story, "The Long Way Home," originally appeared in the early '90s limited Dark at Heart. With only 400 copies of that one out there, a 49 cents alternative is the Amazon download. Check it out here.
In a bit of book-to-screen news, Wilson wrote in his newsletter that Joe Lansdale had e-mailed him to say a screenwriter he knows was interested in Wilson's story "Pelts" for the second season of Showtime's Masters of Horror series. Wilson gave him the go-ahead to pitch it to Mick Garris. After which Wilson received an email saying they did want to develop it into a 60-minute film for its second season. This is still in the formative stages. More as we hear it.
