Saw 2 One-Sheet Movie Poster Some fine publicity folks just sent us the Saw 2 one-sheet poster. We love the dismembered fingers indicating sequel - nice touch...pun intended! Here's a looksee.
Takashi Miike's One Missed Call Opening in U.S. From the diabolical mind behind Audition, comes what's being called Takashi Miike's most commercial venture to date: One Missed Call. Already snapped up by Hollywood for a 2005 remake, and the sequel already a hit in Japan, this flick involves the most ubiquitous device of today...the cell phone.
Opens April 22 at: Cinema Village, New York 4 Star Theatre, San Francisco
Opens May 6 at: Laemmle Fairfax, Los Angeles More dates at: www.onemissedcall.net
Joel Silver Talks Wachowski Bros. V for Vendetta The Wachowski brothers, who are producing and co-wrote the upcoming film adaptation of Alan Moore's graphic novel V for Vendetta, will also direct some second-unit photography for the movie, producer Joel Silver told SCI FI Wire. It's the first film to be directed by Larry and Andy Wachowski since they finished their Matrix trilogy of films. The Wachowskis' Matrix first assistant director, James McTeigue, makes his feature directorial debut on V for Vendetta.
"[The Wachowskis] are shooting a unit as we speak in Berlin," Silver said. "It's a very different movie. It has elements of The Matrix, but it's very different."
V For Vendetta stars James Purefoy (A Knight's Tale) as a mysterious freedom fighter in a dystopic future Great Britain, who takes up with a young woman played by Natalie Portman, whom he rescues from the secret police.
Silver said that the Wachowskis placed a high premium on making sure the special effects did not overwhelm the emotional content of the story. "I think you're always going to have to deal with the story, the emotional content of the story," Silver said. "I mean, it's what the stories are going to convey and what the characters are doing. I mean, yes, we can do anything with visual effects, but it's not enough just to do anything with visual effects. You've got to find a way to kind of attract the audience and get the audience to want to see the movie, and they have to be fresh and unique and original. And I think if you do that then you can make it good."
V for Vendetta is filming now with an eye on a November release.

Really Scary Movie Trailer Watch Here's a round-up of a few of the latest horror movie trailers out there. First up is one for Night Watch. This bills itself as 'the first chapter in an epic horror trilogy' - although on the web site it says an epic fantasy trilogy but who cares what it says - the trailer looks amazing! Possibly a Russian movie but we don't know a lot about it yet. Check out the trailer here. This one looks really promising.
Next up is The Island. Directed by Michael Bay and starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson. If you've read Michael Marshall Smith's Spares, you might think this familiar looking. Click here for the trailer.
Her's a nifty looking one. From Lion's Gate come Undead, a movie with the catchphrase "Crazy has come to town for a visit." Check out the trailer here. This one's set for screens July 1.
And this one needs no introduction, check out Rob Zombie's The Devil's Rejects trailer! Also, check out the cool pic below of The Devil's Rejects cast in a familiar pose.
New Trailer for U.S. Release of High Tension The U.S. release for the French horror flick Haute Tension (High Tension) has a longer trailer available now. This is a freakjob of a flick and while we're glad to see it get a larger audience, dubbing foreign movies always seems to take something away. If you can get your hands on the original, catch all the subtleties in this one while reading the captions. There isn't a ton of dialogue in this one anyway so maybe it'll translate without too much loss. Check the new trailer here.
Exclusive Batman Begins Trailer MTV has got a new exclusive trailer for Batman Begins, although if you're on a Mac, they apparently don't support it. That's not very 2005. Anyhoo, PC users that want to take a gander, click here.

Bean, who is shooting the untitled Niki Caro project (formerly known as Class Action) in New Mexico, is commuting to Toronto to shoot Silent Hill, which began filming this week.[Source: The Hollywood Reporter]
Neil Gaiman's Next Project The Graveyard Book Now that he's wrapped up Anansi Boys, Neil Gaiman talked in his online journal a bit about the next book he'll be working on:
"I saw Sarah Odedina, my editor at Bloomsbury, for lunch, and talked about the next book I'm writing, which is called The Graveyard Book, and which is for her.
(I had the idea for the book in about 1985, when we lived just over the road from a graveyard, with blocked-off-tunnels beneath the house leading to the graveyard, and the graveyard was also where my two-year-old son used to go to play. And I thought at the time I'd put off writing the book until I was good enough to do it justice. Which, in retrospect, was probably partly silly -- you don't get a better book at different times, just a different book -- but probably in other ways sensible, because the idea of writing The Graveyard Book used to scare me, and now the idea of writing it just makes me inordinately happy.)"

Director Tapped for Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell New Line Cinema has hired Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons) to adapt the bestselling British fantasy novel Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell for the big screen.
Based on author Susanna Clarke's critically acclaimed debut novel, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell tells the story of two feuding magicians who attempt to restore English magic in the age of Napoleon.
In other New Line movie news, they've picked up the rights to Meg (working title), Steve Alten's horror adventure about a prehistoric shark, with Jan de Bont on board to direct. The story focuses on an 80-foot-long prehistoric shark - scientifically known as carcharodon megalodon. Some believe it is an ancestor of the great white shark. It terrorizes the California coast, and two men from opposite points of view are forced to come together to neutralize the threat. The studio is putting the project on the fast-track with hopes of a fall start date.
Coscarelli Producing Phantasm Remake As reported earlier, New Line has officially announced they have struck a deal with filmmaker Don Coscarelli to bring a new version of his cult horror film Phantasm to the big screen. Coscarelli will produce the remake of the classic film, which will give a 21st century upgrade to the original 1979 film. Phantasm revolves around the evil "Tall Man" who moves from small town to small town, turning the local dead into slaves as he prepares for an otherworldly invasion.
Wong & Morgan Reunite for Final Destination 3 It's a New Line cornucopia of news today. New Line also reports the team behind the original Final Destination -- Writer/Director James Wong (Final Destination, X-Files) and writer Glen Morgan -- are reunited for Final Destination 3, now in production.
The story begins six years after the events of the first film, when high school senior Wendy (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has a premonition of a fatal amusement park accident. When the premonition proves true, those who survive the accident are forced to deal with the repercussions of escaping their fate. But fate is not so easily thwarted, and as Wendy and Kevin (Ryan Merriman) desperately try to interpret the clues that might save lives, their friends meet fantastically gruesome ends one-by-one. The film is currently scheduled for a 2006 release.
Plot Details on Tarantino Directed CSI Finale The fine folks over at CSIFiles.com have just posted the first plot information on Grave Danger, the upcoming fifth-season CSI finale directed by Quentin Tarantino. Spoiler sensitive should stop here:
In the episode, main character Nick Stokes is kidnapped by someone with an apparent grudge against the CSIs. By the time he wakes up again, he's trapped in a coffin, together with his loaded handgun and a tape recorder with a message telling him it's probably best to kill himself, as he's going to die anyway. There's also a webcam in the coffin, which transmits an image back to the CSI lab, allowing his colleagues to see him slowly suffocate - but not providing any clues as to his whereabouts.
CSIFiles.com has a bunch more, click here for it.The episode is scheduled to air May 19.

David Fincher's Zodiac Lands Cast Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Jake Gyllenhaal sign up for David Fincher’s Zodiac, a serial killer flick for Paramount and Warner Brothers.
Production is slated to start in mid-August, with Phoenix Pictures producing. Scribe Jamie Vanderbilt is adapting from Robert Graysmith's 1986 true-crime tome "Zodiac" and 2002 sequel "Zodiac Unmasked: The Identity of America's Most Elusive Serial Killer Revealed."
Gyllenhaal will portray Graysmith, a San Francisco Chronicle cartoonist who began tracking the mystery of the serial killer. The Zodiac terrorized the San Francisco area from 1966-78, committing at least 37 murders and documenting his exploits in taunting letters sent to the Chronicle.
Graysmith believes he identified the killer, but competing investigations and other circumstances prevented the suspect, who died in 1992, from ever being apprehended. Ruffalo will portray the lead investigator in the case, Downey a reporter. [Source: Variety]
Cannes Film Festival Featuring Heavy Hitters Established auteurs are back with a vengeance this year at the Cannes Film Festival competition. Cannes favorites in competition next month include David Cronenberg, Wim Wenders, Michael Haneke, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Atom Egoyan, Amos Gitai, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Jim Jarmusch, Gus Van Sant and Lars von Trier.

Cronenberg describes his graphic novel-derived A History of Violence, (from DC Comics, written by John Wagner) which toplines Viggo Mortensen, Maria BelloMaria Bello, Ed Harris and William Hurt, as having "almost a classic Western feel to it, like a John Ford film, even though it's set in Indiana in modern times."
Egoyan's Where the Truth Lies involves a young journalist, played by Alison Lohman, who uncovers a long-ago showbiz scandal. Kevin Bacon and Colin Firth co-star.

Amityville Tops Weak Box Office The Amityville Horror, a remake of the popular 1979 haunted house flick and the only film to open in wide release over the April 15-17 weekend, took top honors at the North American box office without much direct competition.
The R-rated film, based on a bestseller by Jay Anson, marked the last wide release managed solely by distributors at MGM, which was acquired two weeks ago by an investor group led by Sony Corp. It was also the first MGM-produced film since that merger to count as part of Sony Pictures' market share. The film also is a co-production with Miramax's Dimension films.
Starring Ryan Reynolds and Melissa George, The Amityville Horror raked in $23.3 million, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations, about the amount studio executives had expected. Final box office results will be available Monday.

As for the science-fiction classic that launched his career, Scott said the door is always open. "If 'Alien 5' is a great script, of course. Lance Henriksen Talks Near Dark Prequel Lance Herniksen recently took part in an online chat with our favorite folks over at Sideshow Collectibles. He mentioned that he and Bill Paxton have talked for years about doing something more with Near Dark. It may not actually qualify as news but if we had a boatload of money, we'd finance this baby!
"Billy Paxton and I have talked a lot about this. We would like to do a prequel starting out during the Civil War and ending where the first film begins," Henriksen said.

The Staircase Episode Synopses & Review by Valarie Thorpe Sundance Channel has been running the engrossing true-crime documentary The Staircase the last couple of Monday nights and if you've missed those, they are going to rerun the first four episodes back-to-back this Friday at 8 p.m. Watch or TIVO those babies and then you'll be caught up for parts 5 & 6 that will air the following Monday.
The series is an eight-part series by Oscar-winning director Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, which follows the twists and turns of the investigation into the cause of death of Durham, NC resident and Nortel executive Kathleen Peterson.
The folks behind the production graciously sent along a preview of the first four episodes and we were hooked from the jump. It's unsettling on several levels and it doesn't pander. You're never given an "ah, so that's it" moment. Addictive stuff. [Click the ## symbol below for the entire review]
Lestrade has shown with his work on the Oscar-winning Murder on a Sunday Morning that documentaries can be every bit as compelling as fiction. And in many cases, more so. He doesn't shoot The Staircase like a reality TV show. Don't get me wrong though, there are painful spots to watch but it's more like you're taking part in the process as opposed to acting as voyeur.
Here's a bit more about it:
The Staircase delves into the mystery surrounding the death of Kathleen Peterson, who was married to novelist Michael Peterson. On the night of Dec. 9, 2001, an agitated Michael Peterson called 911 and told the operator that he had found his wife, unconscious but still breathing, at the bottom of the stairs. When the police arrived, they found Kathleen lying dead in a pool of blood and began treating the home as a crime scene. One week later, Michael Peterson was charged with first-degree murder.
The Staircase takes viewers inside an unpredictable real-life drama, as Peterson's sons and adopted daughters rally to his defense and his legal team prepares to battle the prosecution. Meanwhile, Durham's district attorney and his assistant build a case that will put the Peterson marriage - and Michael Peterson’s private life - at the center of the trial.
Here are the episode synopses:
Chapter 1: Crime or Accident. Michael Peterson recalls the night of December 9, 2001, which began with dinner, wine and a rented movie, and ended with his wife Kathleen's death. After Peterson is charged with murder, his attorney David Rudolf begins working with the investigators and experts who will be critical to Peterson's defense.
Chapter 2: Secrets and Lies. Shocking revelations about Michael Peterson's private life pose new issues for his defense team, as it becomes clear that the prosecution will use these details to torpedo characterizations of the Peterson marriage as idyllic. Peterson discusses the culture and politics of Durham, subjects he frequently addressed when he was writing a local newspaper column.
Chapter 3: A Striking Coincidence. In the spring of 2002, the case takes another surprising turn when prosecutors turn their attention to the 1985 death of Elizabeth Ratliff, a military widow who was found dead at the bottom of the stairs of her home in Germany. The last person to have seen Ratliff alive is believed to have been her close friend and neighbor, Michael Peterson. Peterson subsequently adopted Ratliff's two daughters, who must now deal with new accusations against the man who raised them.
Chapter 4: A Prosecution Trickery. The defense team is forced to contend with the prosecution's latest bombshell concerning the death of Elizabeth Ratliff. In April 2003, there is a pre-trail hearing regarding evidence, a proceeding that ends with yet another twist. On July 1, 2003, the trial begins with opening statements.
Chapter 5: A Weak Case. District Attorney Jim Hardin lays out the prosecution's case and calls witnesses to testify about three points of evidence: the amount of blood at the scene; Kathleen's head lacerations; and the potential murder weapon, a fireplace tool called a blowpoke. Rudolf puts on a tough cross-examination.
Chapter 6: The Prosecution's Revenge. The court rules on key evidentiary issues, and the prosecution calls several witnesses who give emotionally charged testimony. Meanwhile, the trial is receiving extensive and often sensational coverage in the media.
Chapter 7: The Blowpoke Returns. The defense begins presenting its case, which relies heavily upon such experts as a biomechanical engineer and a prominent forensic scientist. But the outcome may finally come down to a stunning find by Michael Peterson's oldest son.
Chapter 8: The Verdict. The long trial reaches its conclusion and Michael Peterson learns his fate - at least, for the immediate future.

Appear in Zacherley Comic Book Commercial Chanting Monks Press will be shooting a promotional commercial for the Zacherley's Midnite Terrors comic book and fans of the legendary television horror host will get an opportunity to appear alongside the Cool Ghoul, provided they come in an original, creature costume for the occasion.
"We had a pretty successful run with a television commercial for my first comic book about ten years ago," Chanting Monks President Joe Monks said. "Now, we're taking things to a new level by creating a promotional spot that will be utilizable on both television and the internet. Instead of just being able to target local customers by using cable or local television advertising, this spot will be perfect to run on the web. This spot will be suitable for all audiences, it'll promote both the company and the title, and also be customizable for just about anybody to use. It totally breaks the limitations of just TV advertising."
How can would-be creature co-stars get into the act? Simply show up at the Chiller Theatre Horror and Sci Fi Expo (http://www.chillertheatre.com) bein held the last weekend in April at the Meadowlands Sheraton in New Jersey, and stop by the Chanting Monks tables or the HorrorBiz Magazine tables to let the co-promoters of the spot know you want in.
"We want original, creature costumes only, no copyrighted characters," informed Monks. "So show off your best creature creation and come on by and maybe you'll be one of those chosen to appear in the commercial." Everybody who comes out in costume, Monks noted, will receive a free copy of the comic book signed by the creators in attendance. For more information on the commercial, the Chiller Expo, or the Zacherley comic book, visit www.chantingmonks.com

Exclusive First Look at Stephen King's Desperation We just got an exclusive sneak peek at the first 15 minutes of Stephen King's Desperation set to air on ABC sometime in November. Director Mick Garris said up to this point only King and those involved have seen any of the movie. Garris presented the excerpt at the World Horror Con in NYC about 5 minutes ago and we raced to stop the Really Scary presses. We're giving up valuable convention party time to bring this report to you while still sober. So here 'tis:
Opening shot starts up high, descends down over a vast desert scene, huge cactus plants dominate the landscape. The shot travels to a highway that we follow a bit and then come to a speed limit sign with a dead cat tied to it. We cut to inside a car going by right at that moment. C. Thomas Howell [Thanks to Bev Vincent for catching our drunken error - it's Henry Thomas in this role.] and Annabeth Gish are the occupants. Mary (Gish's character) is startled by the cat and says something like "there was a dead cat tied to that sign." Peter (Thomas' character) says "Cool" and begins to slow down. She says "you better not" and he grins and keeps going.
Peter then glances in the rearview mirror and notices a car coming up on them really fast. He comments on this to Mary and then realizes it's a police car. The cop car pulls up behind 'em and stays there a bit while we see Mary and Peter get nervous. Then the cop car pulls up alongside, and the policeman (played by Ron Perlman) looks over at them. Peter gives a little nervous wave. Then the cop pulls ahead, slows down and makes them pass him again. Then he hits his lights and pulls the car over. Mary tells Peter to not stop and Peter replies with "I have to."
Perlman's character gets out of the police car and approaches the couple's car. The shot is from ground level and gives a great menacing shot of Perlman, who's of course huge anyway, so now he looks gynormous. As he's approaching the car, Mary says "My God, it's Sasquatch!" He gets Peter to roll down his window and Peter immediately says something like he was probably going too fast. The cop says he did have the hammer down and asks for his driver's license and registration. Peter than explains that they are driving his sister's car back to the east coast for her and that the registratration is in her name. He fumbles with his driver's license. Perlman's character is definitely unnerving him.
Then the cop tells him to get out of the car and Peter asks "why?" Perlman's character just stares at him and so Peter gets out. The cop takes him around to the rear of the car and we're then with Mary's POV and she hears Peter yell. She gets out of the car to see what's wrong and we find that the cop has merely shown Peter the license plate is missing off the back of the car. He tells the couple that kids do that at a service station back up the road where they had stopped earlier.
He tells 'em if they just move the license from the front of the car to the back they shouldn't have any trouble getting across the country. He then asks if they have a toolkit and Mary says there's probably one in the trunk. When Peter opens it to get the kit out, we see Mary look back toward the cop and he's almost trance-looking, a short shudder comes over him. And then we hear him say something like "what do we have here?" He reaches into the trunk and pulls out a good size bag of pot. Peter and Mary both realize immediately that it's Peter's sister. They try to explain that to the cop, who turns toward them completely enraged and screams at them to get in his car. Peter tries to calm Mary and says "we'll get this straightened out in Desperation." Then they get in the car.
Then we cut to an inside the police car shot while they travel toward Desperation and we quickly ascertain that the cop is totally nuts. He seems to fade in and out of consciousness, driving off the road and onto the shoulder, into other lanes, that's when you notice we haven't seen any other cars. There's a ghost-town vibe, and we actually see an abandoned RV on the side of the road, with the door banging open and closed. The cop starts talking to them, and mentions how the mind has been reopened and technology has made it possible that Desperation will be a boomtown again. The camera pulls back to outside the car, showing us the edges of the mine along the highway. As the camera pulls even higher, we see that the mine is actually a monstrous hole that appears to run for miles. Garris said they used a mine in Bisbee, AZ for that shot.
Cut back inside the car and the cop has become more crazed. While reading them their rights he inserts a quick, almost subliminal, "I'm going to kill you" into the midst of it. Peter and Mary look at each other to make sure they heard what they thought they heard and realize he's lost it. When they drive into town, we see dead bodies littering the sidewalks. He pulls up onto the curb, gets them both out and pushes them into a building. He grabs ahold of Peter, pulls his gun out and shoots him three or four times right in the gut. Peter looks down at his now bloody hands, looks over to Mary and falls over. Mary starts screaming and Perlman grabs her and begins up the stairs.
That's your first 15 minutes and it's fairly hardcore for what will kick off at 8 p.m. on network TV. Garris said King's actually seen the entire movie and was concerned the network would cut possibly significant parts of the film but Garris said ABC indicated they are going with it as is. The movie will run over one night from 8 to 11 p.m. and Garris added that the last hour was very intense.

Amber Benson at World Horror Con This Weekend Amber Benson, who played Tara on the hit TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, will be a guest of honor at the World Horror Convention starting April 7 in New York City. Matthew Warner of Horror World is taking the opportunity to tender his opinions on Buffy and its spinoff series, Angel. We at Really Scary think he's a big meanie, but his opinions on "addictive" plotting are worth a read even if you didn't watch the shows. Click here.
